How To Find The Perfect Apartment
Let’s be honest, searching for a new apartment can be exciting, but it can also be just as stressful. Trust me, I know. But taking the time and resources to locate the best place for you definitely worth it. There a many different facets to apartment hunting that need to be considered while looking for the perfect place. Not only is price a major factor in the decision making process, but one has to consider any additional fees, amenities, location and much more. Luckily for you, I have the necessary elements one must consider to find the perfect apartment!
Interior Features
First, you need to know what you want. Make a list of things that are negotiable and non-negotiable. Decide what is important for you to have in your next home. How many bedrooms do you want? What is your minimum and maximum square footage? How much closet space do you need? Washer and Dryer? Figuring out everything you want in an apartment before your begin hunt will help you stay organized and on track with your search.
Location
Location is very important! Not only do you want your apartment to be in a safe location, it’s ideal for it to be not to far from the freeway and shopping centers (groceries, retail, etc). Its also important for it to be close to your place of work; you don’t want your commute to be too far from where you live.
Amenities
What amenities are important to you for your new place? Gym, pool, spa multipurpose room? These amenities can prove to be very beneficial for many reasons. Having a gym membership can be costly, with prices ranging from $30 to around $120 a month. Having a gym on-site is a huge plus if you think you utilize a fitness center in your building. A pool or spa is definitely a great amenity that can help you unwind and relax whenever you want. Whatever amenities you determine are necessary for your new complex/ building, make sure to include them on your list of ‘must-haves’ for your search.
Do Your Research
For each place you're interested in, make sure to do thorough research on each place. For instance, you might want to find out whether there is designated parking for each tenant. This is important considering you don’t want to have to have to circle your complex over and over to find a parking space. Also, its a better safety precaution to have a designated space- preferably one that is close to your building. Don’t get trapped by hidden expenses either. Ask who is responsible to pay for electricity, heat, Cable TV, and water? Also for your safety, ask what security features and fire protection features do they have?
I hope this mini-guide helps make a seamless search for your new place. Happy apartment hunting!

These are great tips, thanks for sharing them Heidi!
Ohhh, I love the whole ensemble! Casual yet till looks chic and classy at the same time! Plus those nails!
Thanks for the tips. I myself have been looking for an apartment ever since the start of the new school year. I’m just a little picky with the neighborhood though.
I guess I’m a bit lucky with the apartment stuffs. My dad’s a realtor and he knows some available ones that I can manage and afford within the city. My work’s just 10 minutes away from my place so I think it’s convenient. It also helps to have someone who knows more about house-hunting too.
Call me a health nut, but most of the time, I want an apartment that would also help my well-being. There are those that are affordable, but lack the amenities and proper health facilities one should be aware of. For me, that’s what matters first. Then the location.
Finding the perfect apartment for you would be a breeze if you are at the right location. I think this is the basic and most important factor needed when looking for the perfect place to live in. Just sharing…
You’re rockin’ that outfit Heidi… I love the white slashed coat, looks really cool!
Thanks for this post, Heidi. My sister is house-haunting in San Francisco and being new in town, she needs all the help she could get. Will let her read this so she can start with ease.
Finding the ideal and perfect apartment is never too easy, that I can prove. But once you’ve found the one, it’s gonna be a breeze. Thankful for all these tips!
Heidi, thanks for these tips, my cuzzin and I are still looking for apartments near our college. We would rather stay together than stay in separate dorm rooms. Thanks again for this guide.
Just want to say, you really got that super awesome style, even with cropped jacket, you still look amazing!
Location is also my first priority when searching for apartments. Next would be the size, since I have my twin sister with me so we want to have our own rooms and I want the kitchen to be big enough for me to cook because I love cooking. Thanks for the tips!
What a lovely outfit, Heidi! But the one that really caught my eye is your ring. It’s gorgeous!
And of course, let me thank you for the tips you shared regarding apartment hunting. I’m sure this will come in handy when I search for my own in the near future.
Great tips! I will tell my nice about this so she can find an apartment of her own.
By the way, you really look great with that jacket, so fab!
Oh, those earrings!! I love that pair, so stunning!
Thanks for the tips Miss Heidi, really these will help me on my search!
Please let me just say that the jacket you’re wearing is really fashionable. I like it! Perfect for the recently changing weather. Oh and I’m also starting to use scarves too because of the chill this season brings.
It’s that time of the year again when we need to pull out our cashmeres and scarves to warm our necks and backs. As always, you look beautiful with your jacket and outfit, Heidi. I also loved that bag, so classic!
Sharing this to my friends who are currently having a hard time looking for a place to stay in the city.
I’m loving how comfortable and sassy you look here, Simply stunning!
I think this is the first I saw you not wearing stilettos. You look really beautiful!
I’m glad I found the perfect one for me. I also considered location first, as I wanted to live somewhere near my work. It was an added bonus when I discovered that it had a lot of affordable yet quality amenities to offer.
Thanks for the tips. Just wanna let you know that I like this carefree casual frock you’re wearing. My kind of outfit for fun outdoors with friends.
Research, that is really something we all need to do first. It always helps to research the place you are planning to stay at. That’s what I usually do too.
Location, location, location. That is basically what every apartment hunter first looks for. A good location will definitely bring peace and satisfaction to anyone looking for a place to stay.
BTW, you look like a rockstar here! You’re rockin’ those earrings and jacket really great!
No wonder I always ended up in a measly apartment before. I didn’t really think about other factors except that I want it to be near my workplace. Silly me.
Nice tips. Will share these to two of my colleagues who hailed from other countries and are planning to stay here in the US for a longer period of time. Thanks!
RIght now, when I search for an apartment, I’m not really concerned with the location since I do business at home. Maybe the only conflict if when I need to go out for groceries and other domestic stuffs, but I think I can make it work. What I am majorly focused in is with the amenities and internal features. I want my new abode to be cozy and big enough to accommodate all my furniture and stuffs, and I want something where I can have access to all the amenities I need like the gym and social halls. I never thought finding an apartment could be this exhausting. Thanks for all the tips!
These are exactly what I need to do, now that I’m on my own and have to be independent and prove to my folks that I can do this. Thanks so much for these!
My friends are currently looking for their own place to stay. Will share this info to them so they won’t have difficulties looking for one.

Finding the perfect apartment isn’t easy, as opposed to what others might think. Many would think looking at listings on Craiglist would do the trick. But no, it is still best to go visit apartments so you can feel the place and make sure you are safe. That’s what I always look for first when I look for places to live. Security is always a top priority!
Exactly! Nothing can beat actually viewing the apartment in person and checking things out for yourself. It’s the best way to get a sense of if the place is right for you AND if the security is up to your standards!
I used to think that the right apartment should be the one that’s near the place you work at But I realized it is also best if the location is near important establishments like markets, hospitals, police stations, churches or school. And it is indeed important to always take note of the safety and security of the apartment. We can’t be too sure or complacent of our surroundings, can we?
That’s true! And you’re right, location to work is very important but it’s also vital to consider the amenities surrounding the apartment.
I like that jacket you’re wearing Heidi, it looks really cool and comfy! Which brand is it?
My husband and I just relocated to Venice and with a new job on the horizon for him, we’ll be looking to move further out, unfortunately, but definitely looking to make sure we get what we want out of our home. Great tips. 🙂 Love your jacket and ensemble by the way.
