The Rebellious Little Black Dress
The little black dress, lovingly known as the "LBD," is the most sacred of cocktail attire. Immortalized by the clever likes of Coco Chanel and Givenchy's unforgettable number in Breakfast at Tiffany's, the dress' ubiquity was founded on one golden rule: an LBD is an every woman's dress, simple and accessible.
Of course, while there's something to be said about the traditionally plain black dress, who's to say that we must stick to the rules when choosing our very own LBD in 2015? In an era when cradling champagne in one hand and nibbling Taco Bell in the other is not uncommon, I think it's time we tweaked the rules a bit.
In a modern update, I paired my favorite LBD with an Ann Taylor motorcycle leather jacket (the gold zipper details are divine) and an equally rebellious Proenza Schouler clutch.
Of course, whenever I wear an LBD, the words of the great Karl Lagerfeld come to mind: "One is never over-dressed or underdressed with a Little Black Dress." So, Ambitionistas, how do you wear your LBD? Let me know in the comments!

ahh, the little black dress,, One could never go wrong if you’re wearing an LBD
I agree with you there, Heidi, the little black dress is indeed every woman’s dress, there’s nothing else that would look better when a lady wears it.
Oh trust me, the little black dress will go a loooong way! I love wearing LBDs now and then, makes me feel girlish everytime 🙂
Oh Heidi, you’re looking really fabulous with your black dress and coat and of course, the shoes! You’re a vision in black 🙂
P.S.
By the way, I am so liking that black & white graphic clutch bag you’re holding, it’s savvy and artistic!
I love wearing LBD. I’m glad I have 2-3 LBD in my closet, it makes choosing the perfect dress for my Valentine’s date easier. Now I just have to worry about my shoes.. 🙂
The Little Black dress is certainly a must-have for every occasion, but I’d like to play it up a bit. Thanks for the choices you shared above. That LBD with long red streaks by Just Cavalli just caught my eyes!
I also love those other funky rebellious choices for LBD! SO cute, especially that Alexander McQueen one..
You look absolutely lovely, Heidi, no questions about it!
Oh honey, you look stunning in your little black ensemble, you look so carefree and elegant at the same time!
You look stunning here, Heidi, I agree with everyone! But the best part of you that I really like, is the striking red lips and nails. Very matching to your LBD ensemble, plus the creative clutch. Love it!
I haven’t tried pairing a black dress with a leather jacket, that’s new and I think I like it. You look good with it yourself 🙂
Gorgeous! Simply gorgeous! That’s all I can say right now..
Darling, you’re a beauty! I love your little black dress. I got one like yours too. And the fire-engine red lipstick finishes that awesome look. I love it!
You’re rockin’ that whole black with leather outfit. I love it!
Whenever there’s a need for me to go on upscale events or just a party organized by friends, I always go for the LBD, coz, I know that’s the safest and I could pull it off on any occasion.
LBD paired with leather jacket, why not? You nailed down the look, Heidi and the result is fantastic!
Honey, I think all the little black dresses I have in my closet look much better on you. Your fashion style is effortless. I love that you paired it with a motorcycle jacket, I thought it would look amiss, but actually, it does accentuate the whole look!
I wear my LBD with accessories. I keep it plain and simple actually, but I accessorize with my jewelries and belt (if it needs be).
You look perfect, rebellious or not, I think black suits you well Heidi. LBD’s are my favorite outfits, too!
Oh I love wearing little black dresses on every occasion I am invited to. I agree with all of you, LBDs may be the safest choice, but it is also the grandest and it really brings out the best look a woman could ever have. The simplicity and elegance is what I always want to achieve when wearing LBD.
A hint of red in a sea of black plus a gorgeous clutch… I am so loving this look. Black and red look good together, and so are you!
I haven’t thought of wearing LBD with a leather jacket. It actually looks great on you. I think it’s time for me to try it out myself 🙂
I wear my LBD on special occasions only, complete with studs (necklace and earrings) and a Jimmy Choo shoes.
I like the hint of red amidst the sea of black and leather. It looks really nice!
When I think of little black dresses, Audrey Hepburn immediately appears on my vision. She’s a classic and she’s worn lots of LBDs that I guess she have perfected the look everyone’s been dying to copy. I love the thought of getting rebellious when using LBDs, that could be so much fun!
The red lips amid the sea of black and pearls look really awesome! I love this look. It really pays to have LBD, you can never be wrong when wearing it.
I gotta try this ensemble this coming winter. It’s definitely eye-catching, if you ask me.
Black leather and a little black dress… Hmm, not a bad idea! I’m gonna wear this combo when my beau and I go on our next date!
I’ve got this cute little black dress which I wore during prom. Two years afterwards, it still fits me in all the right places and had always been my favorite party/event dress 🙂
The rebellious black dress is definitely never out of style. Love the combination with the black leather, still looks feminine and feisty! Gorgeous, Heidi!
Your little black dress complements your leather black jacket beautifully. I wish I had the same body figure or waistline. I gotta go on diet to make sure I’ll fit my own LBD this coming weekend for our holiday party!
Little black dresses will be in demand this Valentine’s day. I’m now sorting out my clothes in my wardrobe to check if I can still fit my LBD. And yes, I’ve got a leather jacket to go with it too. Next thing you know, I’d be looking as beautiful as you 🙂
I’m glad I’ve stashed some little black dresses in my closet. They’re the safest outfit I know and based from past experiences, LBD always save the day!
They can do no wrong!
Heidi, you look absolutely glamorous even in just a simple little black dress. So classy and chic!
I’ve got maybe six or seven little black dresses in my wardrobe, which I am grateful for because they easily come in handy whenever I go to parties or get invited to events.
When I want to play risque, I pair it up with a leather jacket too. It seems to work perfectly, although your look appears more glamorous than mine.
I love your LBD, simple yet elegantly styled. And that leather jacket screams rock and roll, making the contrast even more appealing~
Most of my clothes are actually LBDs. My mom often quipped that the color was too sad on my wardrobe and that I need to put some color to make it stand out.
Your rebellious LBD is wicked, I love it!
You looks so lovely in your LBD, Heidi!
I don’t have any little black dress yet. I haven’t been invited to any event for me to wear one. But when I get older and get a job, I’ll make sure I have at least three LBDs.
The little black dress in every girl’s wardrobe. If only I were a fairy godmother, I’l give an LBD to every girl in the whole world.
A motorcyle jacket over an LBD? Wow, I just realized that it’s a great combo! Looks great on you Heidi 🙂
Got a bunch of LBDs in my wardrobe and I always have fun wearing them.
Love how you styled your LBD with a leather jacket. Looks awesome!
You slay with that little black dress!! So lovely!
